Driver Education needed...

Standard of drivers currently on Irish roads would show we need much better driver education...

Be it stopping & highlighting to the driver or a wider more proactive role by the RSA...
Maybe having specific roadside checks at various times of the day/night & educating drivers eg lights.
Maybe having specific roadside checks at roundabouts where driver is observed approaching & exiting a roundabout.

Don't have all the answers but it's shocking how poor basic driver awareness is... (Yes I know this would all take money but they would also generate decent revenue from the fines they could give out and it would overall improve safety on our roads)

    Just everyday examples
    • One (or less) working headlight
    • One (or less) working rear light
    • No working brake lights
    • Inappropriate front or rear Fog light use
    • Lack of fog light or even any lights in dense fog
    • Using the overtaking lane when not actually overtaking, treating it as driving lane.
    • Failure to observe or consider the long tailback formed behind esp when the road is wide. (Don't advocate speeding but just common driver courtesy)
    • Consistent use of the brakes for no reason other than simply coming to a corner.
    • Stopping at an empty roundabout when the sign says 'Yield'
I know we could all add more but it's shocking how poor basic driver
    awareness is.

    And to the manufacturers...
    • Allowing rear brake lights to be incorporated with the indicators...mind boogles at the practicality thinking...wait it's the appearance that's more important, right?

    It's 10% lack of education
    90% pure laziness.

Enforcement and fines is the only thing people will respond to.
