3 hours or 5 hours at dublin airport

I'm trying to figure out what bus to take. One gives me three hours and another gives me five hours at Dublin airport, terminal 2.

I'm thinking three hours would be plenty. But i hate buses, if i show up for the bus that will give me three hours, just my luck, something might happen, so if i rely on the first bus that will give me five hours, i would have the other one as a fall back.

Drop off bag, security, us cleareance, breakfast, and strolling to my gate. Could i get five hours out of this?

You've kind of answered your own question in that having the 2nd Bus available as a fall back is important to you.

5 hours seems a lot but if you go through checks early you'll at least have time to browse the shops and that.

I would say three hours. In reality even if that bus was delayed by 90 minutes, you'll still make it.

But how likely is it that the bus will be delayed by 90 minutes? Will you be travelling during peak times?

Travelling early morning, so i guess it can be busy enough in the mornings.

Depends on where you are travelling from and how like a delay is, and then how long a delay might be. 3 hours is usually plenty of time, even for a US flight. If you are going to be a bit nervous about any delay, then take the earlier one though. You can have your breakfast in the airport and then sleep on the plane and skip the crappy airplane food.

Yeah listen I flew upto Dublin recently with my flight up being 55mins. It then actually took us almost 90mins to get from the airport to the City Centre (Heuston) with the heavy traffic.
The return bus then had me arrive at the airport and literally run to my gate! Luckily I'd checked myself in online the day before so had my boarding card and had no luggage to check-in. Even with an extra security line opening up just before me, it still took awhile to get through. DublinAirportSecurity more scrutinous than my experience with them last-time.

You can't account for variables in a City environment. I know I'd want Peace of Mind before a trip of that magnitude. At least you'd be at the airport; plenty of time for queues at check-in desk, clearance, security etc. You could get yourself some food, read a novel even before you take your seat on the flight. Time won't be long passing for you, as opposed to looking at your watch sitting on a bus en route to airport.

Bear in mind the extra time it will take to get through US pre-clearance. 3 hours should be more than enough, but you shouldn't have any difficulty killing 5 hours at the airport if needs be.
