Dying

I am lying in bed contemplating death and what it feels like. I don't believe in gods or ghosts etc so don't have a notion what to expect.

I frequently have nightmares about death. The other night I dreamt that I was being stabbed and could feel my life ebbing away and before finally dying I remember thinking I must tell Shane, the guy I love who trampled on my heart, in the hope that he would save me only to realise it was him stabbing me.

Part of me wants to give death a go just to compare it to my dreams.

So basically do you have any recurring dreams/thoughts /ideas about death or do I need to see a psychologist pronto?

I think about it, then I realize there is nothing I can do about it. So then I stop thinking about it...until the next time I think about it.

I will probably have another dream about it if I allow myself to sleep. So often in my dreams I have this moment of knowing all knowledge is ending with me thinking "I'm dead" and then I wake screaming.

I think everyone goes through a phase, or maybe multiple phases, where they think about death a lot. It's a natural thing to do. Not to sound totally morbid but I'm looking forward to it, not that I want it to happen anytime soon mind! Purely because it's the only experience nobody can tell you anything about, no one knows what happens when it does happen, so it could be the most amazing psychedelic experience ever, or it could be like a light switch being flicked.

So pass that Kool-Aid and let's find out together :p

If you're an atheist then surely you don't expect to experience anything?

It will be like before you were born. Nothing. Zero.

Shane's a bolix with a knife in his hand, he was supposed to be cutting his birthday cake and I ended up with 42 stitches!

Thought this thread was about changing the colour of a fabric (or the like)

But yes, I do think about no longer living....

Oh and that Shane bástard....stab him before he stabs you

I'm just gonna go fast, not think too much about it. Shoot myself, maybe jump off a building, no point hanging about waiting for it.

Got my results from my genetic tests for health and ancestry, I shouldn't have to worry about death for a while unless I have an unnatural death. I have genes associated with living living to a 100 years of age, gives me plenty of time to prepare for my demise...
So maybe get your genetics checked, it might confirm you will get to experience your dreams sooner or later.
I did have a dream/vision 14 years ago where I died in the dream, it was an unnatural death and I died from a drone strike, didn't know they were drones until recently as I always wondered what type of plane fired the missile as they were not warplanes. Death was quick enough as I felt myself drift away, saw a white light then woke with a shock as I sat up abruptly in bed, happy to be alive.
I had not being watching anything violent and it was before 9/11. I was just glad to alive.
I prefer to believe my genetic test which was very good overall, better than a dream where you get blown up.

I dont think about or have any fear for my own death but I constantly think about my family members dying and how I dont think I am going to be able to cope with it. none of them are sick or close to death so there is no reason for this but I am petrified about it.

I don't really think about it. Discussed funeral wishes with family some years back and have the will made. The practical stuff really. I never contemplate it nor do I fear it. I have great faith and a belief in a life extraordinary after this one.
I think sometimes younger people think more about, and obsess about, death than we older folk do.

I don't really mean after death, I mean more as my life force extinguishes. In my dreams I always have this moment of complete clarity of "I'm dead" then nothing. So curious if anyone thinks that is what could happen.

Of course I do. Wow you are the best doctor ever. Can you write me a prescription for that please. I think I might need it at least twice daily and maybe something orally too.
Don't trust him, he's one of them.

I would if he wasn't over 6 thousand miles away. Fecker.

I'm not scared of dying at all, but there's no way I'll battle out a long illness. No thank you. But I'm terrified of people I love dying. That crap would keep me awake, all night long.

Nonsense. It can't possibly be like how it was before I was born.

Sure I was a fighter pilot in in WWII then, hardly gonna be at that again.

I came into this thread thinking it would be about someone in bits at their desk after a few too many Sunday beers.

    This was unexpected.
