Coolant leakage, advice?

So over the last month I've topped up my coolant twice. The last time was only a couple of days ago but the level dropped well below the minimum very quickly. I'm going to bring it to a mechanic this week but does anyone have an idea of how much a coolant leak (container, pipe....I obviously don't know :o) repair might cost? Worst case scenario cost??

Worst case 1000 euro plus best case 1 euro would give us an idea if you told us make model and year.

Im not very familiar with them is there any signs of coolant under the car when you park up ??

Best to get it checked out properly before it escalates into an expensive repair.

That's a good sign. It means it's probably a damaged hose, connection or rad, and not leaking internally through the head gasket.

Oh that's good news :) could you guesstimate how much something like that would cost to repair?

Look, we can't give you an estimate if we don't know what part is at fault. It would be wild guesswork.

As an example, it could be a loose or broken jublee clip, cost a tenner to fix. On the other extreme it could be a cracked block (v. unlikely) which would require a new engine costing a lot, 1000+. I'm just saying that no-one here can give you the price you are looking for without knowing exactly what is wrong.

Either investigate further and post pictures so we can figure it out or else get a mechanic to look at it.

    Eh, ok thanks.

I'm only saying is all. You need to have a bit of detail to gauge the cost of a repair. A coolant leak is not simply a coolant leak. There could be a myriad of reasons for it and any number of faulty parts.

Different Car etc etc, but to give you an idea a 2006 5 series had exact same problems, until it started to lose about 1L a day. Needed new radiator, 500 including lab.

Once it's leaking on to the ground it's not 2 bad. As said could be as simple as a loose connection or maybe a burst pipe to the radiator leaking..
