    Hi,

    Is there any software out there that would let me play with graphs and equations and the like for free? Preferably compatible with Linux but anything would be helpful!

    How complex do you want? Typing the equation into Google will give you an interactive graphic
    Use 5x^2 for 5x squared etc

    SciLab is another handy one.

    Similar to Matlab but free, you can do the usual plotting and everything very simply plus a lot of extras such as simulation and things if you ever need it.

    Thanks lads!

    I didn't know that you could do that with google... handy!

    Scilab sounds more my thing. I'm looking at graphing various functions, intersecting functions, functional specs.
    Eventually would like to work up to 3d functions using it to understand partial derivatives, conic sections... that kind of thing.

    If you are comfortable with python, then check out http://sagemath.org. You can install it easily on linux or if you prefer use it through a cloud server at http://cloud.sagemath.com/
