Unacceptable: meaningless ego fart?

I was reading the rugby forum and someone came out with this word. It is trotted out regularly on Joe etc. It doesn't mean anything: something varying from trivial to awful has happened and someone pronounces this as if it changes something. It's always after the fact: when the deed is done and has been accepted. Because it wasn't stopped. Unless you can actually do something to reverse it then it's a useless pronouncement. Ego sounding off in other words. Do you use it? Does it serve any purpose? It's not fit for purpose Joe.

Huh? Havent a clue what this is about

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

    "Not fit for purpose"

Now there's a phrase that needs to be taken out and buried in waste ground.

Similar thing is people quoting laws/rules that need to change.

Say ... oh i dunno ... road planning or squirrel hunting laws need to change.

Theres a debate about pros and cons and then some genius quotes what needs to change like it means something.

You: The law on squirrel hunting needs to change as there are only 5 squirrels left and theyre important to the ecosystem.

Douchebag: i disagree, the law from 1982 says its legal.

You: what are you fcking insane youre using the topic being debated as a point in the debate.
Thats like ... fvck i dont even know what thats like.

Douchebag: but its the best i can muster when im clearly wrong.

Damn it, I was kinda hoping that 'confusion' would be a good answer.
Any hints on what would be a good answer?

You keep using that word, I do not think it means what you think it means.
