    Hi all,

Looking for some advice about this unit which we recently had fitted into the chimney in the sitting room.

I find that if you follow the manual it is hard to get a good wood fire going with the primary airflow at 25% and the air wash control at 100%. Instead I find it necessary to have the primary at 100% to get a good burn going with the kindling and then adding logs. I have to turn the primary down a bit as the fire starts to roar and vibrate.

First question then. Should I add several logs at this point and continue to leave the door ajar until the logs have taken? If so for how long? I have used hardwood with less than 20% moisture.

If I reduce the primary to zero the fire tends to die down quite a bit and I find it necessary to keep it at about 50% to keep a good fire going. The airwash control seems to have very little effect on the burn and there is no visible effect on adjusting this. Is this normal? Adjusting the primary valve has a huge effect.

Finally I have none of these problems if I use briquettes as here the air wash is low and you regulate the burn with the primary.

    All advice welcome.
