As a final reminder to anyone who may still consider playing in this year's FIDE World Senior Individual championships, the closing date for entries is 15 October. These are 11-round tournaments with a rest day after 6 rounds, and the first round is on 10 November.
The venue is the congress hall at Acqui Terme, a spa town north of Genoa. A few Irish players have entered so far.

The lists of current entries are at http://www.chess-results.com/tnr174984.aspx?lan=1&art=0&wi=821

The entry lists were updated today. Currently there are 158 entries for the 65+ event (eligibility based on age at 31 December so anyone born 1950 or earlier can enter) compared with about 92 last year.

There are 88 entries for the 50+ and 26 for the women's championships.

There is a more information and an online booking form at http://www.scaccomattissimo.it/seniores2015/2-hotel-booking

Here is my final post on the World Individual Seniors Championships until the event begins next week at Acqui Terme, Italy (first round Tuesday afternoon, 10 Nov). These are 11-round tournaments with a day off after round 6.

In the 50+ there are 103 entries and Predrag Nikolic (2603) is a strong favourite, being 50 points ahead of Rozentalis and nearly 100 points ahead of third seed Alexander Ivanov. Keith Arkell of England (2499) is fourth seed.

Jim Murray of Lucan carries the Irish flag, which is good because we had nobody in that tournament last year. Very brave of him too as he will be eligible for the 65+ next year.

In the 65+ there are 190 entries including 7 GMs, and numerous IMs and FMs, headed by defending champion Anatoly Vaiser (France) at 2503.

Patrick Daly, Matt O'Leary and I have entered.

There is also a women's tournament including the legend Nona Gaprindashvili.

    Entry lists are at http://www.chess-results.com/tnr174984.aspx?lan=1&art=0&wi=821

We won't know until we get there whether there will be any live coverage.
