We've a blocked drain and can't flush toilet without external drain backing up. We need to get it fixed asap. Any recommendations for someone to get it done fast and ballpark how much it might cost?

Go down to any builders providers and buy some rods they are around 25 - 30euro and rod the drain yourself. Way cheaper than getting some one else to do it.

The council will sort out the blockage for free if it is in the connection to the main sewer.
You have to contact Irish Water first, even if you haven't registered or paid , and they will contact the council. You should definitely try this first before you take on the expense of an emergency plumber. I learned the hard way, they quoted 150 to clear the blockage, turned up and destroyed the place and charged 260. Never again.
