Yay Unity

I would probably not know this if the mother of my current children did not work a LOT with the German language as a linguist, translator and interpreter. But today is German Unity Day.

So happy Unity to the Germans or married to Germans or going out with Germans or just plain learning German people among us!

For the rest of us ignorants - of which I am one - Tag der Deutschen Einheit is a celebration - a national Paddys Day - remembering unification in 1990. A day when little to no shops are open in Germany - and the mother of my children has to stay up all night proof reading speeches in German - or correcting translations of media speeches into English - until dawn on the 4th :)

    Yay Germany! :)

Does the mother of your children have another title?

Life Partner? Things like that. I get in trouble on boards.ie when I refer to her as "one of my girlfriends" so I tried to be subtle tonight.

She has a name of course - but I do not like to name names of non boards users on boards as a matter of decorum.

Can we get back to YAY unity and YAY Germany now? :p

My memories of being that old are vague - but a lot of the imagery of German Unification stay with me to this day.

Guten abend von Mass, USA. Spent 7 years there (Bodensee) and remember the excitement vividly.

Is Thomas Godschalk still on TV? :)

A beautiful country. It's sad to see whats happening at the moment with the illegal immigrant crisis, I suspect Merkel will pay with her head at the next election.

Just for clarification a refugee is somebody who claims asylum at the first safe country they enter from the conflict they're fleeing, an illegal immigrant/alien is somebody who illegally crosses borders to get to a desired destination.

Many scum out there are taking advantage out of the genuine flight of Syrian Refugees fleeing from the Islamic terror group ISIS.

Moving country makes you total scum? Unless you have a purple passport, right? Scumbags, being born outside of the EU like that, have they no shame?

Moving country illegally makes you total scum, yes. (And I say that as someone who was born outside of the EU like that, with no shame...)
