Hi all, Looking for some advice. Had 2 jobs up to last May. One casual so days varied every week and one 19.5 hr contract over 3 days . I had the casual job for the last 5 years so had been receiving part time JSA. About a year ago i signed off JSA when I got the 19.5 hr contract. Last May i lost the casual job so thought i could apply for part time JSB. My employer did not send my P45 until this week. So i went into social welfare yesterday. Everything appeared fine and was all set up to claim for the days I wasn't working. Then he rang back a few hours later to say he would have to deny my claim as i had to show a sub loss of hours in my current job. I had brought in my P45 from the other job to show loss of income etc but he didn't look to see it. Just wondering is it worth my while to appeal it. I think the problem might be I had to fill out this sheet showing the pattern of days i worked. Because of the delay in filing the claim they only looked at my days since last June and worked out no loss of days. Obviously I had lost the other job at this stage so I could not prove loss of days. Sorry for complicated story!

How many days are you working? How much are you earning for those days?
Are you single? Is it JSB or JSA?
If you're working more than 3 days you get nothing. If more than job seekers you get nothing.

I work 2 and half days so thats classed as 3 days. Im single i get 385 euro for 20 hrs so JSA not applicable. I would be docked too much. The main thing is am i entitled to anthing for the loss of the the job.The fact the officer didnt look for my p45 from the other job I thought it was strange. I do have enough stamps for JSB if that had worked out

You probably need to organise a meeting with him.
If it was JSA you are means tested, if JSB then you need to find out the reason for the refusal.

He said that i needed to show a sub loss in my current job so assuming that when i took the 19.5 hours contract I am still getting that 19.5 hours. To be fair the guy was very nice and offered to send out appeal papers. Just wondering if its worth my while.

    Won't do any harm.

How many days per week were you working with 2 jobs?
If you had 4 or 5 days while working 2 jobs and now only have 3 days then yes you have a sub loss.... (substanial loss of employmet)

It varied but an average it would have been a 4 day week but because of the delay in me going in they only looked at my pattern of work since June so it didn't look like I had a sub loss

Ask them to go back further.

They can go back a full year if it would give a fairer pattern of employment.

You have 21 days to appeal but you can ask for a review of the decision first.

Go back to your local office and ask them to review the decision based on the work pattern for the previous 52 weeks..if that doesn't work then appeal.
