Am truly mystified as to how Enda Oates won the Best Actor award! Sean Mahon was brilliant in Red Rock. Thought he would have been a shoe-in!! What criteria do they use when judging these things??

Enda Oates is a fairly well known theatre actor.

It's all a marketing ploy as far as I can tell. Ros Na Run had no nomination most likely because they couldn't pay for a nomination.

    I remember Enda from Glenroe.
Was it a sort of lifetime achievement award? ;) Sean Mahon played a blinder in Red Rock as the bullying sergeant. He
was the guy we all loved to hate!! Very disappointed he did not win. It would have been well deserved. But, what do I know? :)

Yes the Reverend in Glenroe. He is a good actor. Surprised Chris O'Dowd didn't get it. But this is the other thing with the IFTA's unlike the Golden Globes we don't have outstanding actor in a Musical/Comedy we have outstanding actor in a Soap/Comedy.

Of all the people on that list, I would have placed him last.

Re Soap/Comedy - soaps are quite often unintentional comedies!

    CONSTRUCTED FACTUAL

What I was terming as Semi-Social Reality Documentaries, I think constructed factual is a better term.

Basically its reality TV outside of a competition format. So I assume Big Brother, The Apprentice and Survivor are reality TV while The Kardashians etc are Constructed Factual, a certain amount of facts edited in such away as to construct a storyline of some kind.

would Kardashians not be reality TV and say the Bressies Teenage Kicks be constructed factual?

Yeah Teenage Kicks and Connected are both Constructed Factual.

Hard to say with Kardashians as its not quite a documentary but it tries I suppose (honestly only ever seen it once) to put them in situations written for the show e.g. Getting some event organized an the Matriarch trying to be involved.

It's funny how you look back on The Ozbournes now and think that was an actual reality TV show at times. Does Dumb TV become dumber?
