I've been tinkering with the idea of getting an air intake for the golf, i've been looking on ebay at the CarbonSpeed induction kit for the mk5 gti,

Has anyone fitted one and more importantly was there any improvements in performance or even fuel economy?

Starting off at €300 i'm curious to see what people who has it fitted think..

Herself has a k&n cone filter, just the basic one no heat shields etc.

No performance or mpg effects as far as I can make out, but sounds good. Quiet when you are cruising or just tipping around, loud when you open the throttle.

At the end if the day, apart from a noise maker, its your air filter so I would stick with established brands rather than cheapo fleabay stuff, at least for the actual filtration part of it. Fair enough the piping or whatever might be fine in the cheaper products.

Hers was about 90€ iirc, there was just a short plastic pipe to attach to the throttle body. Other cars might cost more due to extra or more complicated stuff. For that price it was worth it for the noise and the quality was good. Personally I'd struggle to justify paying more for one unless there was evidence that engine X had been really strangled by the factory intake.

Edit... Didn't see the price in your post when I read it first, thought you were just getting random "generic" kit. That carbonspeed kit looks good but it would want to be for that price!!

    Thanks for the info sc

Might leave it well enough alone so, not really looking for extra noise, as i've a stainless exhaust fitted so nice growl already..

Anything i've read online seem to say the same really, so might leave it off..

I think I misunderstood what you are considering buying, the brand name just sounds like one of the million generic fleabay carbon kits.

Looking it up now that's not what it is. Noise will depend on whether its just a shrouded cone filter (loud) or a replacement box with a panel filter (probably slightly louder than standard but not obnoxious)

Basically I have no experience beyond k&n and I misunderstood what you were buying.... so don't write it off just yet!
