I've never been at this event before. Apart from the lectures, what else goes one? I presume there are genealogy-related products for sale. Someone mentioned that FTDNA sell test kits there at a lower price than available online. Are DNA test kits also available from other companies?

Various organisations will have stands - some selling things, some giving information and advice. Ancestry will be there and I presume selling their dna tests as well. Both they and FTDNA are likely to have a reduced price on the kits.

Some stands give discounts on books & various services. Worth going to - I've never paid in as there are always free passes.

Where do you get the free passes? I bought three passes online, they were only €5 each, but free would be better and I may need another two.

That's where I got the tickets that I paid for. There was a link on the BTOP website for advance tickets - urging people to get them before the end of August (I think) at a special price of €5, suggesting that they would be more later and on the door, but I see the website if still offering them at €5. Oddly, the tickets that arrived in the post were marked FREE, but presumably the €5 was a service charge per ticket.
