Bad time to buy VW/Audi?

    Hi All,

Looking at changing the car at the minute. Currently driving an 09 Accord which is serving me fairly well but I'm considering a change. In light of all the ongoing VW issues would you consider buying one now, or hold tough to see how things play out with recalls etc over the next month or two?

Interested to hear opinions on this.
    Cheers
    hof

The real acid test of the impact of the scandal will come in January and February when new car sales figures are released.

I'd be seriously considering a VW if I was in the market and playing hardball on price. I'd love a Golf!

How sucessful I'd be dunno but worth a shot!

Used, considering a cc or maybe an A6 if the budget can stretch. I want to come up 2 years at least.

Well you're potentially buying one of the cars affected. It's not fully clear yet how individual cars will be affected by the software update. I'd hold tough until the recall is implemented. If it is to the detriment of performance and economy there may well be a backlash in terms of used prices.

Probably sound advice - anyone know what the timeline is on the recalls? It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Well considering it's only about Nox output and not CO2 so your average paddy won't give a flying fcuk about the whole thing..

Most wouldnt care but personally what would worry me is 'the fix' will be to remap the cars down in power. I wouldnt be happy with that especially if i had the car already remapped for extra power

Will the recall be enforced. I'd imagine lots of folk will say feck it I'm not having this done, maybe have a reduction in power/performance as mentioned above and also possibly increase the chances of an emmision fail. Maybe I'm wrong, but aren't recalls usually up to the car owner to engage with the dealer and have the work carried out. I know most if not all until now have been to the benefit of the owner. Will the EU step in to ensure compliance?

They would probably do it whilst in for service or if the vehicle gets traded in..

I was looking at a new passat R line this week and the salesman was willing to knock about 5K off a high spec pre registered one they had in stock. Seriously considering it :) F@ck the emissions thing, use it to your advantage and don't bother with the recall until you can see how it affects the power of the car.

That wouldnt make them very popular,
The car goes in for a standard service and comes out down power.
The lads that remap cars will make a load of money from this . Cars will be recalled for software download and power will be reduced, then the car will be remapped back to where it was

What makes you think power will be reduced?
From what I understand, the software only affects the testing. It detects the car is under test and injects an agent to reduce the nox.
If this is it then performance on the road , consumption should not be affected.
Drivers should not notice any difference.

If you buy it (assuming its the new model and not one hanging around since last year) you'll be fine. It's got the EA288/9 engines which as of yet aren't implicated. I reckon they'd be brain dead not to have come clean by now if the new engines are going to need a recall.

recall checker up now .my 152 jetta passed and id imagine cc will be ok unless it has been manufactured months back

CC still uses the older engines (140bhp and 177bhp) though and will not be getting the new ones until the model is changed next year. Are these Euro5 or Euro6?

From reading about the whole problem , on the net , on other forums.
There is an aweful lot of people/conversations about this. There is talk as well of getting compensation for owners if power is reduced as you payed for a 140/170 hp car

What agent does it inject ? Ad blue, AFAIK part of the scandal is they claimed that their engines didnt need an additive to be compliant with nox .
Also if the agent /additive was already there , why would they have done this , this way, defeat software, worldwide recalls as a result
My understanding if the software is it detects that the car is under test and basically reduces emmissions by reducing power.
If there is no agent to be injected then it has to be a power cut.
I have an A4 2.0 that might be affected so have done a bit of research,
ATM when there is a recall for this id be ignoring it

Not any more it uses the 150 or 190 since June, the wife got a new A4 in June and its affected.

Could one not just pass on the recall for software update and retain current performance and let Al Gore shove the emissions thing up his hole.

Either that or get the update for free then bring it to a tuner to remap it to optimise performance again?

Had that car any milage on it?I don't see any real impact on garages as they have not been any easier to deal with so far
