the gear stick in my 02 ford focus seems to be getting more difficult to move from 1 to the other..is this a sign that my clouch is nearing the end or could it be something else?

Same thing is happening to me. It affects first and reverse gears but the other gears are not affected. It's your clutch I'd say. Having a new one fitted on Tuesday :(.

If the clutch was on the way out it would start to slip (revving when in gear unexpectedly with clutch up).

IMO I'd say the gear linkage cables are worn, failing that its a gearbox fault.

Possibly gear linkage , i dont think the focus had cables on the gear linkage though.
It probably is the clutch though, if there is a problem with the release levers or release bearing the clutch may not be releasing fully making it difficult to get into gear,
