    A good quality flat file.
A grinder will heat the edge and take the temper out of it.
Wear a pair of heavy leather welding gloves so you don't slice your finger off when your hand slips.

I use the flappy sandpaper discs and take your time.

I have a variable speed 4 inch grinder I bought in Aldi

with a worn grinding disc and set at slowest speed it would sharpen a razor blade

What is the correct method when using the flap disk to sharpen? Move it both ways or just one? Work towards the blade tip or away?

I wanted to bump this thread to ask a question. I tidied up my shear grab and I want to edge the blade. Just wondering can I use this grind stone my drill to edge it ? Thanks

It's a twin speed drill. I was thinking the lower speed would be fine.

Those are for use in a die grinder which is typically spinning at 22k rpm……

So your drill definitely won’t be too fast.

Use flap disc here too. Works well

You'd be faster with a hand file, honestly.

If a blade is really bad, shape it with a flap disk and do the final honing with a file, you can leave it good enough to shave with.

I’ve a Johnston grab after doing 13 winters and it’s cutting like new. A slight rub of a file to take any dull edge off it is all it needs. I’d usually give a look at the start of the winter and round Christmas and file out any burrs but haven’t done either this year.

No need to be grinding with a flap disc or any other kind of disc.
