I need to get my hands on a fuel cap for my car to pass the NCT. Excuse my ignorance here but do you need to buy a specific one or will a generic one do ? Also how much ?

Go to a VW dealer, surely they'd have one for reasonable money?

You can pick a generic up at any factors until you get a proper one.
    A tenner or so maybe.

Scrapyard would be the best bet IMO

I'm sure that they'll have a cap from a seat/skoda/Audi that would fit.

I'm talking about the thing that you screw in to stop petrol pouring out of you turn the car over as opposed to the fuel flap door thingy that's painted the same colour as the car.
