    Hi All

Newish to the game and just wanted to see if anyone could advise me on the general etiquette for changing clubs, ive been a member of my first club for a 18 months or so but don't get to play as often as id like anymore as my living/transport situation has changed over the last 6 months or so and am looking to join a club closer to home which is handier for me.

The club im currently ins year runs from 1st March 15 - 28th Feb 16 and i pay my membership by DD and to date ive paid €600 out of a total €780

Is it considered bad form to change clubs now or should i wait til next year? I wouldnt like to annoy the lads in my current club as everyone there is sound and its no reflection on them or the club that im leaving

    Thanks

Most clubs will start offering memberships for next year from now so you get a couple of months free.
As long as u don't stop the dd and play a few more rounds you should be ok.
Print off your handicap cert from your Gui
Account as they may shut that down.

Thanks mate, thats what i was thinking.

Would I have to put it in writing that i was leaving or anything like that or once my new club gets in touch to transfer my handicap etc would that be all the confirmation they need?

I wouldnt dream of cancelling and still playing, havent played in 6 weeks or so

I moved recently. I told the Captain and the manager I would not be renewing next year and sent an email to the handicap secretary telling him I was transferring my handicap. Once you've paid the club what you owe them I wouldn't have any issues with moving if and when you want.

Would I generally be expected to pay up the remainder for the total year or just up to when I leave? Or does this kind of thing depend on the specific club

Depends on your contract with the club. If it's installments then yes you'd have to pay, if it's fees on a monthly basis then no. It'll be well covered in the T&C what happens if you leave mid-year. It should be available on their website for new potential members.

Best thing to do IMO would be to speak with your current club and explain the situation as you have done here.

They might cut you looose straight away...... They will appreciate you going to them and will help you out with any advice they can give you.
