tablet for teenager for school

Hi
looking for advice
getting 15 year old son a tablet for bday/Xmas. it will be used a bit for school as well as spotify and movies in the summer time
not getting an iPad
budget around 350\400 Max
thinking of one of the samsungs
either tab 4 which has 10.1 inch screen and runs kit kat 280 euro
tab A 9.7 inch screen runs lollipop 280 euro
tab S 10.5 runs lollipop 500 euro plus
as fast as I know they all have expandable memory which is important

at the moment I'm leaning towards the Tab A as its the same price as the 4 but has a newer OS?
will have to check out screen size
Is there any reason to justify the 200 plus extra for the tab S ? something obvious I'm missing apart from larger screen

What about the HTC Nexus 9?

Its a top top tablet and will have marshmallow soon as its ready. Build quality is superb and it looks and feels the part

Argus were doing offers on them recently should be still going.

I have a tab s 8.4. Very high res screen. Not fantastically responsive but I haven't had the desire to put a faster custom ROM on it yet.

I got mine in a sale abroad for less than 200e.

There are tons of budget tablets and most of them are fine and will do what you need them to for school.

I'm coming from a 10" tablet. They are heavier (and more expensive) and I actually prefer my 8.4". I thought I wouldn't.

There is a 32GB version also but it is a bit more than 400 at Argos presently.
It could drop in price very soon though, there was also a brief sale not too long ago where the 32gig model was under €300.

Just to throw something in from left field - but would you consider Chromebook or Internet with Bing or an Ultra(netbook).

i dont care what anyone says, a bluetooth keyboard on a tablet does not beat a netbook be it a chromebook or otherwise.

thanks for the suggestions but it has to be a tablet
he is doing the JC this year so for the next 8 months it will be for schoolwork mainly and then he gets to have fun on it for his TY year
we actually have a netbook (a Samsung as it happens now that I think about it) but its soooooooooo slow
I mean indescribably slow. so frustrating to use!
