DAHDi settings for Eircom FRA ISDN

    I've been trying to connect a Digium TE133F digital card on a FreePBX server to an Eircom 16-channel ISDN FRA line, but appear to have something wrong in my DAHDi configuration.

    Eircom installed a Tellabs 8110 box to which I've connected the Digium card using a crossover cable to the 120 ohm port. The Line 1 and power lights are green on the Tellabs box, and the PMA light is lit red, with the DMA light unlit. The status light on the Digium card is currently blinking red.

    I've been using the DAHDi Config module for FreePBX to configure the card.
    It lists the card as follows:
    Digium - Wildcard TE131/TE133   RED   CCS/HDB3/CRC4   31/31   16   pri_cpe

    In the DAHDi Config settings I have:
    System Settings
    Tone Region: United Kingdom

    Modprobe Settings
    Module: wcte13xp
    Opermode: Ireland
    A-law override: alaw
    Other modprobe settings: default_linemode = e1

    General Settings for the card are:
    Framing/Coding: CCS/HDB3/CRC4
    Channels: 31/31 (E1)
    Signaling: EuroISDN
    Sync/Clock Source: 1
    Line Build Out: 0db (CSU)/0-133 feet (DSX-1)
    PRI Dialplan: National
    PRI Local Dialplan: National
    PRI Exclusive: -
    Receive Gain: 0db
    Transmit Gain: 0db

    Group Settings
    Group 0
    Context: from-digital
    Used Channels: 15 (From: 1-15 Reserved: 16)

    Group 1
    Context: from-digital
    Used Channels: 14 (From: 17-31 Reserved: 16)

    Eircom have confirmed CRC4 is on for the line. I've tried various settings but keep getting the RED alarm error.

    The following snippet keeps looping in /var/log/asterisk/full

    FreePBX is latest stable release, 6.12.65-30, and running asterisk 11.

    Should your tone region (system settings) be set to United kingdom? (is there an Irish option)?
    Might not be getting the correct dial tone...

    If the lights are showing green on the Eircom box then you have a good Layer 1 connection.
    I know Eircom told you the CRC4 settings but try it with CRC4 off - reset the circuit after every change.

    Also your settings Channels: 31/31 (E1)
    Need to be reduced to 16/16

    Out of curiousity, by reset the circuit do you mean power cycling the Tellabs box?

    I hadn't seen an easy way to do this yet within the FreePBX gui, thought splitting the groups might achieve it, obviously not. I'll give domeld's config a go in the morning, thanks guys!

    Yes that config looks better with 15 voice and 1 data channel.
    Normally it is just a case of resetting the system end rather than the Eircom end.

    There is no easy way to do it throght gui, i always use asterisk to configure Digium cards. My config will work for 100 %

    I've obviously done something wrong as I haven't been able to make it work with mine. I've uninstalled the Digium Config module completely, and copied your config exactly for

    I tried dropping the CRC4 by the way, and restarted, dahdi module didn't seem to even load within asterisk so I restored it again. Still getting the same slow red blinking light. Scratching head.

    Might it be a wiring issue? I made up a standard crossover cable (T-568A -> T-568-B) and testing the cable seems okay.

    I just connected the Digium to the loopback tester and I got a green light,
    # dahdi_scan
    [1]
    active=yes
    alarms=OK
    description=Wildcard TE131/TE133 Card 0
    name=WCT13x/0
    manufacturer=Digium
    devicetype=Wildcard TE131/TE133 (VPMOCT032)
    location=PCI Bus 07 Slot 01
    basechan=1
    totchans=31
    irq=0
    type=digital-E1
    syncsrc=1
    lbo=0 db (CSU)/0-133 feet (DSX-1)
    coding_opts=AMI,HDB3
    framing_opts=CCS,CRC4
    coding=HDB3
    framing=CCS/CRC4

    Guess I'll make another crossover, although network tester shows the one I have is okay. Could it be an Eircom issue? I'd lean towards me being the stupid one.

    Telco crossover is different than cat 5 crossover:

    What lights do you have on fra box?

    That has to be it! When the line was installed the engineer told me he didn't have a crossover cable but that he'd drop back later with one, I told him not to bother I'd make one up myself. Serves me right!

    Lights on FRA box are power and Line 1 green, PMA red.

    domeld, you're due your choice of beer, cake, or "I posted on boards.ie and all I got is this crappy t-shirt" t-shirt. Made up the T1 crossover cable, plugged it in, got the green lights straight away and able to place/receive calls. Thanks for your help.
