No space at lectures

    Hi,

What is going on with DCU this year. I am struggling to even park my car this year because there is literally zero space.

Now I'm sitting in labs because I walked into a lecture hall to find that there is no space to sit down.

Surely DCU should increase the size of lectures halls or cut down on numbers? Absolutely ridiculous that they just take on so much people to make more money and then don't bother accommodating people for lectures.

Are you just starting in the college. I think this is common everywhere actually, in modules that are a common subject for lots of modules. It will only be an issue for the first few weeks in most cases, before attendance drops. Would be surprised if this is an issue in the latter year of a course as people drop out etc. DCU has a huge shortage of parking spaces, that is not something new.

Not in DCU myself but have had the same experience in other Irish universities. They appear to assume that they wont have 100% attendance so don't need large enough halls for that size. Sometimes it could just be a mess up that the lecturer can look into and get moved to another hall.

It happens in all universities, at least, in Ireland. Mostly in large lectures.

They know that the numbers will dwindle after a few weeks due to people dropping out or not showing up for lectures. You'd be surprised.

Sometimes an error in registration causes some modules to be over registered.

    Yeah it's ridiculous.

No I just started 3rd year and it has never been this bad. I'm guessing attendance for a 3rd year course is going to be better than a 1st year one.

It's rough when there's 100+ students in the course!

Get on to your lecturers then about moving to a bigger lecture hall. If you don't get any satisfaction use the student union.

Well these issues are gone now. The lecture halls are empty these days :pac::pac::pac:
