Well yesterday I joined the list, playing druids heath, 5th hole, 177 yards uphill to a blind green, hit a 5 iron that was tracking all the way, walked up couldn't see a ball except a pitch Mark about 3 feet short, walked over and she was sitting at the bottom of the cup. Best feeling ever!!!

Congratulation and what a tough hole to get it on, seriously uphill. Was the round in competition?
Played the course for the first time earlier this year and got talking to the green keeper who was doing repairs to that green. Since opening they had to increase the size of the green a number of times as given the hole length and elevation people were finding it impossible to hit in regulation.

Yeah was in the Tuesday open, glad it was in competition, should get the watch and stuff from howdidido and druids said they would send out certificate in the post

i think there was more to it than that. I think there were actual problems with the green, it was totally dug up a few years ago and a completely new green pu tin

Do you get a free watch? I first thought it looked like that, but then had a feeling it looked like they might make you buy it! let us know.

What about Insurance? I think you used to get €150 to buy drink in the bar, but someone told me it was done away with

Whats the deal with HowdidIdo - do you need to be a member of a club, member of their site etc in order to get the prize ?

Getting a Hole in one on its own would be savage so getting anything after that would be a nice bonus.

Class stuff dar. Great hole a 5 iron too.

I got it, as a signed up member of HowdidIdo - Hugo Boss.

A bit mad, as I said to dar last winter at (mini winter matchplay) that I had a feeling one of us were going to get a hole in one soon - was just a guess. We were getting close in Corballis.

But both of us got one within the last few weeks.

It was in the context of Corballis - I think the best place to get hole in one at.

By the way, whatever you think of the place, it is a great place to try get hole in ones. I can remember at least 5 very close ones there over the last year - Myself, darcool, Scub and to add to that PARlance was bang on for one yesterday - hit the flag but major bounce back from flag 13. So I've seen a very close one now on 1/4/6/13/17.

I wonder will we see one there soon ?

Unfortunately with HowDidIDo the hole in one has to be on your home course and in a qualifying competition to be eligible for the watch. I got one in Slade Valley last year playing with Dar_Cool but never got anything out of it as it wasn't my home club. Raised it as a ridiculous stipulation with HowDidIDo as it's harder and even rarely to get one on an away course but never heard anything else from HowDidIDo on it. Got one during the first 18 hole compeitition this year in my home club but again ran amuck with the stipulation that it has to be a qualifying competition, again don't see the point as it's a par 3 so you're teeing the ball so preferencial lies and placing doesn't come into it. Was well peeved off with HowDidIDo on both occasions.

As regards insurance, it's a farce regarind a hole in one. I had/have golf insurance through my club and on both occasions got nothing for the miracle shots. Until a few years ago you used to get €250 towards any possible bar bills but that was done away with and now you're only entered into a lottery for apparent "better" prizes. I had to contact GolfSure and furnish them with proof of the hole in one but again I never heard anything from them, they never even acknowledged receipt of the details I sent them or confirmed everything was in order until I chased them again 3 times. I then had to contact them numerous times regarding the winners of the apparent lotteries as results aren't published anywhere.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

    Nice work dar_cool!

(Where was it we played last year where you drove over water directly onto the par 4 10th green, and it began rolling down the hole to the pin closer and closer, eventually stopping about 6 ft from the hole)

Must be catching...out on my own in Cobh tonight for a practice round.....15th hole, 180 yards, right to left breeze.

Hit a 6 iron out of the middle. Started 20 yards right of pin with a baby draw and wind brought it round. As it landed I thought it should be close but thought I saw it run just past.

Hit a few short pitches on my way walking up so picked up the balls on the green but was missing tee shot. Spend a minute or 2 looking long of the green. About to give up when I said I'd check the hole. And there it was :D

Delighted but pity it wasn't in a comp or at least with some eyes on it. Ah well....hopefully some day.

I doubted myself on that one too. But I knew I was hitting my "game" ball off every tee :D

And anyway my pitching is not good enough

I remember that well too. I went for the green also but made an utter balls of it. Snap hook left into all sorts. Lucky to get the ball. Thankfully it had a nice lie and I made a good chip and somehow sank the putt. Something felt wrong about me teeing off the next still with the honour.

No pictures on a scorecard and all that :)

I've had 2 aces. One a low sliced 5 wood (I was 12 or 13) that started left and wormed it's way towards the cup. The 2nd was a pitching wedge when I was celebrating a landmark birthday some years later. That 2nd one was rather expensive.

I also had the very rare distinction of having 2 abatrosses within a month of each other.

Not that I like to gloat or anything.

I had my first hole-in-one on Saturday on the 11th at Enniscrone. :)

It is 170 yards on the card and the tee was a yard or 2 ahead of that. Into the breeze I hit a 25 degree hybrid and in it went. It plays slightly uphill so I didn't even suspect that I had holed it until we walked up and saw no ball on the green.

Coincidentally I had my first eagle on a par 4 the day before in Carne!

    excellent and congrats
surprised you don't have a few eagles in the bag by now :)

I was close myself to a hole in one on Saturday but they still elude me. only ever had 1 eagle.

btw.... would you recommend the weekend?

    Definitely worth the trip.

3 fantastic courses (we also played Rosses Point) although you are at the mercy of the weather. The conditions in Carne were one of the wildest I have ever played in. I was wet in the time it took to get out of the car and put on the raingear.
