BMW e63 - Xenon lights

I recently purchased a 2006 BMW 6 series and it has Xenon headlights, dipped only. I am putting it through the NCT soon and planned on changing back to Halogen, so went to Halfords for bulbs. It turns out they only have D2S Xenon bulbs for my car. So, my questions are, did my car come with these bulbs as standard, can I get Halogen, and how will it fair in the NCT with Xenons?

Why would it have trouble with Xenons?

Your car came with those bulbs as standard, more than likely. It'll pass the NCT no issue with xenons, provided they're in full working order as is the levelling and headlight washers.

If they were aftermarket. Heard of people failing NCT with aftermarket Xenons

Are you sure they're dipped xenon only? The inside lens closest to the grills may only be a halogen flasher. The outer lens is likely a bi-xenon lamp, it functions for both high and low beam. Have you checked this?

I only used the flash to check, which was halogen, are you saying that proper full beam will also be Xenon?

Edit: just checked, it's only the dip that's on xenon.

OP, it's very probable that the original owner ordered the car with xenon lights as an option. If they are from the factory and have auto leveling and washer system then chances are they are factory fitted in which case they should pass the NCT no problem.

Exactly. That's the way it is on my E66 of the same era.

Not the way it is on my 6 series though.

OP, stick your VIN in here and it should tell you what your car had originally fitted from the factory:

Just put your vin into http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/select and it will tell you if they are factory or not.

Did that and it lists Xenons in the lights section, but it also list items that i definitely don't have like built in phone, night vision camera. Is there somewhere on that site that list what my car came with? or is it just a general list for my model?

OP PM me the last 7 digits of your vin and I'll tell you the exact spec of your specific car.

Also anybody that's interested, BMW are offering the bulb replacement program again this October so go to your dealer and get any bulb replaced for free including xenons.

    Problem sorted.

    Xenons are standard.

If you go into the dealer with one xenon bulb blown, do they replace both at the same time for free? :)

I'd imagine so, I don't bring my dunnes stores jeans back to penny's if they don't fit me.

    It's a BMW driver campaign.
