Y'know, it's crazy to think how long this board has actually been around...

Even crazier is the fact that it was these very boards which helped properly kick off the paranormal (investigation) scene in Ireland, given that prior to that point, there wasn't really much of a scene (as far as I'm aware). The UK has certainly had a longer history with it, but it seems that Ireland's scene is getting fairly comparable to the UK's at this stage, although admittedly I haven't been involved with either for quite some time, mainly due to being unable to afford to attend any investigations.

Even if I'm not officially mentioned on their website (partly due to moving to the UK and partly due to other things that I don't plan to go into), I was a founding member of the Paranormal Research Association of Ireland, and over the years, I've become a bit more logical and scientific about things, whilst still generally retaining my spiritual beliefs. I'd like to eventually do an investigation in the future, but I've no idea when that'll happen. That said however, with all the different training and experiences I've had in certain areas, I'd like to think that I'm going to be a bit more professional with my investigation methods now.

In any case, it feels weird how things have changed, even with this board; I used to be on here a lot more than I used to be, and some of people who I used to chat here with regularly aren't even here any more, or they're hardly on here like I am, though I see a couple of familiar faces on here still. That said of course, it does seem that this place is less active than it used to be, back when I was more active too.

Crazy when you think about all that's been going on here in the past compared to how it is now, but then I guess everywhere has peaks and dips.

the paranormal forum on boards kicked off irish interest in paranormal research? I really wouldnt think so. I dont know anyone involved in paranormal research (bar one or two) who use this forum ... or even heard of it for that matter.

Perhaps now, but around 2006 there was a very large number of investigators on this forum and a lot of investigations were organised through the forum. It wasnt until about 2009 that groups started popping up all over the place with their own websites and forums. Almost all of those groups have now disbanded and those who are involved in paranormal research don't really use this forum anymore. You cant argue that there are a lot less people involved in the area now than there was a few years back. There was a time that PRAOI, PIGS, Bumpz, LeinsterParanormal, IPIC, Wexford Paranormal, East Coast Paranormal and other all contributed to this forum frequently. None of these groups really ever posted on eachother's forums. Now as far as I know only LeinsterParanormal is still active out of all these groups. There are plenty of more groups with accounts here but people dont like being questioned on their beliefs in the paranormal or the activities of their groups so they dont usually pop up much anymore.

I wouldnt go so far as to say that this forum started this interest in the paranormal in Ireland, that was entirely due to the popularity of TV shows like Most Haunted.

thats all Im saying. plus you kinda proved my point - all those groups mentioned are about the only groups who were active on the boards. granted there arent as many ghost hunting groups around, but there are as many if not more paranormal researchers.

Id be interested in reading some of their research. Where do they publish? Im not trying to be smart but if there is research going on Id love to read the results.

:confused: I think you'll find interest in the paranormal in Ireland goes back long long before the invention of TV.

My interest in the paranormal started with Ghostbusters (as did many people's, I bet!) but it was really only when the boards started here back in 2004 I got to attend my first investigation; I'd like to think that over the past 11 years I've grown and become a lot more balanced with my beliefs and "scientific method". Interest in the paranormal in Ireland was probably around even earlier than Ghostbusters, but the scene in general didn't really start developing till around the time this board first appeared, although it could have appeared mainly due to demand, meaning that this board's existence was coincidental to the rising interest in the paranormal.

That said however, the UK has a larger "scene" and also possibly a longer tradition, seeing as you have heard about a lot of paranormal things being studied back in the 1800s. I haven't actually properly looked at stuff, granted but I'm going off the top of my head right now. That said of course, this board's popularity has pretty much waned over the years, especially when I was semi-actively organising investigations, which was the late 00s/early 10s. I haven't really been here as much though, mainly because I haven't had much of a chance to do paranormal stuff. That said however, I might have an explore around my local area, seeing as there are ruins of an abbey (and some woods) nearby, which is crazy to say in a way for London!

But yeah, I haven't really been doing much in the field since the Paracon (whenever that happened last) because it costs to travel and also the investigations cost too!

Sorry if I wasnt clear. I meant the huge growth in paranormal investigations & research that happened in Ireland from 2009 onwards. Obviously there was an interest in the paranormal in Ireland before hand but not in the form of a Most Haunted style team investigation & research group.
