The survey is very narrowly focused on elderly Irish people in parts of England, no mention of people in Ireland who may listen for religious opt=outs or dxers in the Faroe Islands.

The former they should know the number of from the JNLR. The latter aren't a concern

It will be interesting to find out what the findings of the survey will be and whether RTE will go ahead winding down the service from next year.

It'S SOOOOOOOO annoying hearing people say that RTE have been on Long Wave in Britain for 90 years when they only started on Long Wave in the mid 00s... I know they had MW but that didn't cover as much of mainland Britain as LW and MW was always a domestic service anyway...

With rte today reporting a deficit of 2.8 million in 2015 the longwaves days most be really numbered. Talk about low hanging fruit.

Theyve been an AM in one form or another since 1926 (although it was 1933 before they were running any serious amount of power) Some parts of Britain could hear it better when it was on MW in others LW comes in better.

People focus too much on mainland Britain there are parts of Northern Ireland where one cant hear RTE on FM. There are also Irish people living in the Netherlands and Belgium.

unfortunately the signal is so poor now ,I couldnt listen to it in wexford because of the strong signal on 252khz from Algeria ,come the evenings,in winter it will only get much worse

Suspect they want to kill it off by gradually reduce the power until reception gets so bad people give up listening believing it to be down to inherent flaws in the longwave medium itself.
Then it becomes easy to justify killing it off.
