Online company looking for membership fees on cancelled account.

I signed up to an online dating site in February for a 6 month membership. I paid through paypal, as I figured it was a once off payment, and they wouldn't catch me out on renewed membership.

Well I was wrong, and they took another 6 month membership fee from my Paypal in August. I emailed them to tell them I didn't want to renew, and could they please refund my money. They ignored this email, so I raised a claim with paypal who gave me my money back. The online company cancelled my membership in the next few days, so I though everything was sorted.

Today I got a letter from some debt collection company in Germany, saying they want the payment of €240 for the 6 month membership, plus about €60 in fees, and if its not paid in a week, they will take measures and proceedings against me.

Now, I know they got me on a technicality of not unticking the automatic renew button, but I did make it clear to them right away that I didn't want to renew, and I think the reasonable thing would be to cancel my renewed membership, and at worst charge me for 1 month instead of 6.

Any advice appreciated, or if this is in the wrong forum, maybe it should be moved?

Next time they ring, see if any of them want to go on a date. Two birds, one stone.

    Just ignore them.
