Brake disc recommendations...

    Hi All,

Toyota are looking for 160 Euro for front discs (pair, supply only) for a 09 Toyota Verso Diesel, are they really worth the extra money over the Bosch, Mintex, ABS, which seem to be retailing around 100 to 120 Euro for the pair. I previously got the Toyota Pads but did not install as the set on it were still OK, but now both need changing.

    Thanks for your help.
    Kubota.

No ,they are not worth the extra €40/60.

Thanks. Mister Auto has Bosch Discs at 101 Euro, so I reckon you can't go too far wrong with Bosch products.

Have a look at the back of the genuine pads you got. They might have the name of the manufacturer on them.

There's a good chance that they are made by Bosch.

I'd go with Brembo over Bosch for brakes personally.
Bosch are good but Brembo do very good brake parts.
and at 57 for a pair are nearly half the price.

    Not certain they're right. Assuming it's a 2.0 D-4D. 295mm disc

    Maybe I'm wrong though.

Yeah it's a 2.0 D4D, 295mm disc. The genuine pads I bought a while back are made by Textar.
I will have a look on the Mister Auto 're Brembo.
    Thanks for your input.

    Just to update.

Got the Bosch Discs from Mister Auto, took a bit longer to get them with the An Post delays. Fitted them today with the Toyota Pads and did an oil service while I was on the job. Found it hard to get a grease for the Caliper Slide pins, got every suggestion from Copper Grease, CV Grease, Silicone Spray to Vaseline from the few Motor Factors I called, so in the end I got some ( a squirt) from a Toyota Garage, told me that the Toyota stuff is approx 50 Euro for a small toothpaste size tube. So happy motoring for another while.

    Kubota.😊

Glad you got sorted, Crazy that rubber grease is that price.
    I bought a 500g tub for 16 from Ebay.
Castrol red rubber grease is the stuff.
Its vegetable based so doesn't affect rubber like mineral oil based greases and oils.

The toyota stuff is silicone can't imagine the cost is justified. I've always used hi temp grease, never an issue. If I wanted fancy silicone I'd put molycote on it I get my molycote on ebay for about £8.99. Vaseline damages rubber so thats a definite no, cv grease will run out of there with any heat at all and could foul the brakes, copper slip is alright but the lubricant separates when you heat it, silicone spray is alright but it mostly solvent so hard to get enough into any place that needs it.

Hard to get but red rubber grease is inexpensive. Its very sticky. Brilliant stuff

Only spotted this thread now, but the Toyota discs are less than €120 per pair

My local Toyota Dealer wanted 160 or 330 supply and fit front discs and pads, parts cost me 170 and replaced myself, very happy with the Bosch Discs, running perfect. They replaced Gearbox oil, differential oil, brake fluid and engine coolant for 160, which wasn't too expensive I think.

They were overcharging in a big way so. I got mine done in a main dealer recently for €245
