The Government have just announced in their Capital spending spree announcement that they will be going with the Metro North option from the city to Dublin Airport and on to Swords using trams.

We will all be dead or very old before this happens

I'll believe it when construction starts. Until then I'm not holding my breath.

Sounds like a tram with a short underground stretch.

It's election time; there are votes to be influenced, I can't see it happening tbh, Ireland is still effectively bankrupt and borrowing a fortune for day to day in case people have forgotten.

What about all the Dublin City to Airport buses? Will they just go out of buisness?

Not for a VERY long time, and even when the metro does possibly maybe miraculously appear, there will be plenty of places where it won't be any help at all, so there will be lots of places for the buses to serve for a long time to come.

Can't help thinking that it would be a lot more effective to move Busaras to the airport, as things stand now, the services to the south and west are massively delayed by going from the airport, to busaras, then out to the M7 or other route through the city, the Limerick service for example takes an hour to get from the airport to Red Cow. If it came From the existing city centre busaras, to the airport (via DPT) then round the M50 to Red Cow, most of the time, that would be 30 minutes quicker, and there would also be a case for not running all buses into the centre of Dublin from the airport, as well as having feeder services from other areas into the airport bus station.

As for the metro, it won't be much help to people arriving into Dublin by train who want to get to the airport, as the connections to the Metro are not straightforward, and mean several changes, bluntly, especially with luggage, for most parts of the country, it will be quicker and easier to use the coach links direct to the airport rather than faff about in the centre of Dublin for over an hour.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

That's why Dart Underground should have been built first. MN won't go ahead anyway, not without change to the political system.

Before we even consider the political bumf doing the rounds currently, has anyone actually considered where EXACTLY within the airport campus that any sort of train / DART / Metro station will be built? Ah things currently stand, I cannot see where they can build a station that is within any kind of close proximity to either terminal.

Not holding your breath until 2021 seems sensible.

It was my impression that the station would be underground at the airport.

If memory serves me right there's a spot reserved for Metro North between the church and the T2 exit Road. It's currently a surface car park but was earmarked for MN.

Now plan access and egress for the underground tracks and see how expensive it gets and how quickly it becomes so. I personally cannot see a simple engineering solution here that will get pass the bean counters.
