    Hi all,

I am currently doing an internship from June to Christmas where I get paid only expenses. I signed a contract at the start which it only said that the term of the contract is between June and December. It hasnt said anywhere where I can quit before December.

Im looking to leave as Im doing nothing most days and I cant afford it anymore even with the expenses.

    How do I approach this?

Have you spoken to your mentor aboit how you feel?
Give them a weeks notice of leaving and then leave.
Is it a jobbridge program? Will it effect your social welfare if leave?
What are you plans when you do leave?

Its not JobsBridge just work experience. I dont get any social welfare at the moment. I plan to work in my family business when I leave until I get something else.

Out of courtesy give then a weeks notice in writing, thanking them for the opportunity.
You could burn your bridges and tell them it was a waste of time or be more tactful and say it wasn't suiting you and your needed in the family business if asked.
No need yo tell then why your leaving in the letter.

Christmas is less than 3 months away.
You are over halfway through the contract.
You might be better of sticking it out for reference/CV.

Im not so sure because I think that they will understand if I leave due to my financial situation. I also did work experience here before in college so I am fairly certain I will still have a good reference.

Could you ask to reduce your hours to do one day a week? That way you stay the full contract length and can work for money the other days. Your focus should be getting a good reference out of this, as well as experience in the area.

Well I have about 10 months experience at this stage working for them. If I quit do you think my good reference will be gone?

It depends if you leave them in the lurch or not. Will they be able to fill your place easily? Do you have training that other interns don't have? I would be upset if someone let me down at short notice, try to give as much notice as you can when you leave. Why did you take the internship in the first place if you already have the work experience?

An internship so you owe them very little apart from courtesy. If you're leaving just give them notice of a date and keep it cordiale, thanks for the opportunity etc. Don't burn your bridges of course but at the end of the day no skin off your nose from what you describe.
