Cracked Iphone6 screen, got screen replaced by local shop but now is not working.

So what happened was, that i broke my iphone 6 screen. I went to a local shop who 'specialises' in iphone screen replacements. They fixed it and everything was fine until about a week after when i noticed the screen coming up in the middle of the phone. so i brought it back and the guy said 'ah it will never stay on, your phone is bent so this problem will always happen'. He stuck the screen down again but about 3 days later, the screen was not properly working.

Now i have all lines at the top of the screen and the phone doesnt work properly. It keeps pressing even when Im not touching the screen. I keep messaging the guy who fixed it on Facebook but now he is ignoring my messages.

Im not sure what my options are to be honest. Anyone got any ideas? I could go back to the guy but if the phone is bent there isnt much he can do. He should never have replaced the screen in the first place if it was bent. Now my phone is pretty much unusable.

Is the phone bent or is he just telling you it's bent?

If he has forced the screen in (to fit the "bend"), then it will likely have damaged it. Replacing the screen on an iphone 6 isn't that difficult but there are some cheap rubbish replacement screens on the market.

So i think the screen may be bent. I wouldnt of thought so until he said so. if i press down on the corner you can see a small movement. I dont know if its just cos the screen was put on poorly. Basically, now, if i had a stanley blade i could pick the screen off in the middle of the phone cos you can see under it. The top area of the phone is unusable now so I keep having to double tap the lcok button to use the top area.

If i was to replace the screen, would it not just pop out again though?

The screen shouldn't be able to bend!

Was the phone bent before it went in to be fixed? If it wasn't then there shouldn't have been any problem replacing the screen successfully.

It probably was bent. I never noticed it before, until the screen was coming off and i brought it back to the guy. He said 'aah, this screen will never stay on, the phone is bent' so he restuck it and said 'it will come off again' which it did and now he is not answering my messages about it.

Perhaps take it up to Belfast? Dunno if Apple will replace a screen now that has been destroyed by a third-party installer but maybe ring them up and see.

Even if the Apple Store's price for fixing a screen seems expensive, it comes with a warranty and not done by some joe soap that's just watched a couple of YouTube videos.

Could you throw up a couple of pics of the phone, particularly the case.

Sure, its hard to take a photo of it though cos its s thin. I have also attached the lines that are appearing on my screen.

That phone looks perfectly straight to me, i'd say the guy who attempted to fix it isn't willing to stand over his work, or his cheap parts.

have you got anything with a perfectly straight edge...say a ruler or something? put the straight edge up against the phone where you think it's bent, you won't be long finding out.

The phone is fine though your problem is two-fold.

    1. Sh*t repair work.
    2. Sh*t quality parts used.

Cut your losses. The repair centre you used is like so many out there. I wouldn't bother going back for a 3rd visit. Everybody is calling themselves "apple repair specialists" nowadays. Go and get it done properly.

How much did you pay to get it fixed?
My wife's screen is broken too and apple are cheaper than the local "expert" to repair it and your warranty stays intact.

The good thing is, Apple will more than likely fix this, even if someone else has been at it, your warranty is gone, and they will charge you for the repair, but at least their repair, will be stood over if something was to happen down the line.

Yeh, the fella that did it is a idiot. Thought he was a big shot waffling on to me about phones and the batteries on phones etc. like i cared. I stood listening to him for about 45 mins telling me about phones and how many chancers there are out there all while he was ****in me over.

I paid 120 for the new screen. I got onto him about it and he said he would give me a new frame for 75. I asked would he replace my screen to make it work for 75 then, and he never replied. I have messaged him about 10 times on facebook prompting a response and he hasnt replied.

So frustrating. I need my phone for work too.

apple will fix it. Will be an out of warranty repair. I Think its around £250 could be wrong though.

You're damn close shane. The cost for an OOW screen repair on the Iphone 6 by Apple is £236. This assumes that the butcher that initially f**ked it up did no further damage which is of course possible. If the Apple tech overseeing the repair sees further damage, it will be returned to you, unrepaired. So in short, you're looking at the guts of €350 yoyos for a guaranteed fix. It's gonna hurt, anyway you slice it.

I recently made total Sh*te of my iphone 6 screen and wasn't keen on being sending it off for repair as it's a work phone and I wasn't keen on having it accessed outside of my supervision.
Anyway, after a lot of searching I found an "original" screen including the backplate, mic, camera, proximity sensor here
Home button is not included as I wanted to maintain the fingerprint ID so I needed to retain the original home button. It's a simple transfer from the old screen to the new in any case. The same screen from the same supplier is on ebay here.
You will need a set of iphone tools including the pentalobe screwdriver like these. Have a good look some of the tutorials on youtube on replacing an iphone 6 screen.

I have no link to the supplier. I took a chance from the reviews that the screen was an original as advertised or at least equivalent quality. It arrived in 3 days from the UK and I had it fitted in about 15 minutes. It's of original quality in any case, fits perfectly and operates perfectly.

I had previously tried a cheaper lower quality screen from ebay which was just the LCD and Digitiser. All the other bits needed to be transferred over including the back plate which was a nightmare due to the inferior quality. Screws didn't line up and so on and I had symptoms not dissimilar to the OPs screen view.

On the OPs repair, if the phone was not given to the repair shop bent, then it looks like the phone was forced closed or something not fitted properly before the screen was put back into the phone. The screens are a dead tight fit, but are held by two lugs that slot in at the top and the two screws at the bottom. If the carcase of the phone has been bent then it's likely that any new screen wont fit any better than the repair the OP has had done.

Anyway, this was my experience. I am perfectly happy with my new screen and repair about 5 weeks after doing it. I hope someone else finds this experience helpful.

If the screen connectors aren't attached properly or there's some kind of pressure on the back of the screen you get those lines, you can take it back to your man, i'd say it's just not attached properly or there's too much pressure on the screen. The screen is probably perfect.
Some stores can straighten a bent iPhone with a special jig, might be worth asking any stores around can they do it.

And don't forget, this guy is bound by laws to stand over his work, take as many pictures of your device as you can, proving that the frame of the phone isn't bent.

Take all the details to a solicitor, and let him deal with it. 120euro isn't to be sniffed at, and too much to be chalked down as a loss.

It's a botched repair plain and simple. If OP goes back, they need their head examined. Good suggestion by Avns1s above.

It’s hard to be sure, but phone does look slightly bent in that second picture.

He should get his money back, but the problem he's described is usually down to it not being connected properly or pressure or both, it's a simple enough fix for the repair shop, about 5 minutes work.

but the problem is if they do fix it, it will just pop back out again. he said its not fixable as the frame is bent. he offered me to fix the frame for 75. i dont particularly want to give him any more business cos he has been really poor from start to finish. he should never have fixed it in the first place...

They will charge you for a repair if its accidental damage regardless of warranty. I think it's €120 for a repair within warranty.

Ok so a screen repair for an iPhone 6 is around €127 direct with Apple, includes shipping etc. Regardless if it's in warranty or not cause 99% of the screen repairs are accidental damage not covered by warranty anyway.
The out of warranty charge only applies if there's more than just screen damage like a new casing required if the screen doesn't fit because of further damage. If really only the screen is broken you wont get charged more than the screen repair price.
I don't understand why anyone would go to local repair shop for an iPhone 6 screen repair as they usually charge the same/more than apple (this doesn't apply to older model iPhones, for which I think they're a good alternative).
As for the OP; unless there's a big dent or other considerable damage to the casing I'd just send it off to apple. if you're lucky you'll only have to pay the screen replacement fee.

It will be out of warranty repair as the screen has already been replaced by a cheap Chinese one.
