Another VRT Question

    Hi all

I've done some googling and can't find the answers to these questions:

    1. After I have the VRT completed, how much are the number plates to purchase?

    2. Do I need to book an NCT for the car after the VRT or is this automatically issued as part of the VRT process?
The car had a new MOT in the North August, will this count for anything?

    Thanks for your help.

Number plates are inexpensive. €25 for a pair maybe? Any decent motor factors can make up a set for you.

UK MOT has no relevance at all here.

    Just gone through this myself.

    1. After I have the VRT completed, how much are the number plates to purchase?

It will be 22 euro or 25 euro. I can't remember which. They give you sticky pads fix the plates onto the car. If you want to screw the plates on you just provide your own. They provide the new plates directly at the VRT centre.

    2. Do I need to book an NCT for the car after the VRT or is this automatically issued as part of the VRT process?

The NCT is separate to the VRT. If the car is 4 years or older you will need to book in an NCT and get it done. MOT will count for nothing unfortunately, though if you passed up the North I don't think you should have problems with the NCT.

    Hope that helps.

    Perfect, thanks so much guys.

Cyrusmekon - did it take long for your VRT to be completed? Just wondering how long I can roughly expect to be at the centre for.

What is it they check, just that the Chassis number matches the reg cert?
Or are there any safety checks etc done?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm a bit nervous!

    Thanks again :)

Once they see you maybe 15mins. They check mileage and that the chassis number matches up, job done.

Ah nothing to be nervous about.

No safety checks done with the VRT.

Paperwork and having everything in order is your key here. My mistake was to print a bank balance online as a form of proof of address. They did not accept this. It must be a sent hardcopy statement. As all my statements were older than 6 months I had to go to the bank and get a stamp saying the printed statement was legit.

Yes they check the Chassy number, have a walk round but the biggest part is the paperwork. If you have all that in order expect to be done in about 30 mins.

After 24 hrs you can pay your motor tax online, which is handy then book online for an NCT (If older than 4 years). They will advise you at the centre anyway.

    Good luck.

Thanks so much Cyrusmekon, have all my paperwork sorted (just typed a receipt out myself with the name and tel number of the seller as it was a private sale - hope this will do!)

All booked in now, can't wait to get my Irish plates.

    Thanks again :)
