FINALLY upgrading from a banger

I've only ever driven bangers, 98 Corolla, Atoz, Micra and now a Fiesta that's breaking my heart

Looking to take out a €3k loan and buy a 2006 something... Has to small with an NCT for the foreseeable future (April 2016??) I'm torn between buying a Micra and a Clio... Love the look of the Clio but I never got a days trouble with my old Micra. I'm not even sure what I'm looking for, maybe just some sound advice about both? My step mum drives a Micra and she hates it, I'm clueless about cars

New micras aren't as good as old ones.

Clios aren't a bad car.
With your budget though I'd get a Suzuki swift or Daihatsu Sirion.

Swifts are really out of my price range, found a lovely 2008 one, nordy reg and needed two new panels, dont have that kind of money - I'm only a poor student

Your car should be doing more than that.
A few years ago though, my missus had a 1.0 micra and I had a 3.0 jaguar petrol, and the micra used more petrol on the motorway.
Depends on the type of driving you do. I would say if you're doing 110kmph+ that a 1.3 would be better than a 1.0
You should average about 40mpg mixed driving on a swift.
