    Hi all.
My boyfriend and I found the house of our dreams! It's a cottage in rathfarnham. We never really realised how far out it is. At present we live in SCR. His job is in earlsfort terrace at Stephens green.

What would be the best way to get there each day? His day starts at 9. Where would be the nearest luas or would a bus be a better option?
At present he can walk to work so this will all be new to him.

    Thank you.

Rathfarnham is a big place. It depends on which part you're travelling from

Rathfarnham's huge, you'll have to be a bit more specific :)

The eastern side of Rathfarnham is a 10/15 minute walk from a LUAS stop. The southern/western edge is anything up to a 90 minute walk :)

Without knowing anything more specific, if you're not near the LUAS, then the 16 bus might be the best option. But may not be close to you depending on where you are.

61 bus route through Nutgrove Avenue goes near Stephens Green. Few and far-between though!

Sorry I don't know if it's easy or west! It's Two mins from the village if that helps. The dodder is across the road!

Thank you. It is right beside the village and across from the dodder. It's called wood view cottages. So about two mins walk to the village

OK well in that case you have a choice of two bus routes, the 15b and 16, both of which operate along the Rathfarnham Road.

The closest to St Stephen's Green that they operate to is Aungier Street.

I wouldn't waste time with the LUAS - you would not get there any faster, as the nearest stop is either Dundrum or Windy Arbour

Allow around 40 minutes at peak times for both routes to get into the city.

Put your details into here www.a-b.ie and you'll find it's likely the 16 or 15/b that works best.

It's about 15 mins on the bike to Milltown or Windy Arbor or Dundrum Luas stops. Luas is packed in the morning, but he'll get a place in Dundrum. Lovely cycle along the Dodder to Milltown on mornings like these, cyc;e path most of the way. Theres a cycle path all the way to Dundrum Luas via Dodder Rd and Braemor Rd.

It's about 25 mins easy cycle to his job, I used to live in Aranleigh and this is how I always went to the city centre, it's the most reliable in terms of predicting the time it takes.

Bicycle is the way I'd travel as buses are packed and stuck in traffic in several bottlenecks in Terenure, Harolds Cross/Rathmines etc. You can't predict an exact arrival time by bus if that is important to him.

Yeah, LUAS is miles away, forget about it. As said, from there you walk five minutes back to the village onto the main road and the 15b or 16 are your best bet.

I too would cycle from there, you'll fly in. But I accept that many people don't want that.

Get to know the local area. In a pinch you can get a bus that drops you outside Bushy Park (there are like ten routes that go past there), and walk through the park. So if you were ever in a rush or missed a last bus*, it's useful to know the alternative routes you can take.

*Although at midnight I would advise getting off at Templeogue village and walking the 15 minutes back down the road rather than going through the park.

I live near the village. On a wet Winter morning it can take an hour or more. Its a great area to live in. I use a bike to commute to St Stephen's Green. There are lots of buses 15b and 16. walk >60min.
Best wishes on your new adventure.

15 minute cycle, if the lights are with you. Bus wise, for greatest choice, stroll up along the dodder to templeogue. Choice of all 65s, 15, 15b, all the 49s.

    Did I mention, it's a 15 minute cycle?
