Adding a stove to an existing gas Central heating system

We have a three bed semi wither a 4th (converted) attic bedroom. We are looking at some internal modifications which include merging our dining room and kitchen and "kingspanning" the external facing walls to improve our energy consumption.

We are also considering a small stove to burn logs and briquettes and are wondering if it is possible to plumb the stove into our existing gas central heating system. This in effect would make the system a a dual fuel one, and permit the rads to heat from either the stove or the gas boiler.

Again, would this be possible and are there any limitations or restrictions in doing this?

There are restrictions yes. But it is possible albiet very expensive. If your looking to spend money if suggest you upgrade your boiler and heating controls(grants available) and install a non boiler stove.

Thanks for that. The current boiler is only 3 years old and is a condenser jobbie with which we are very happy with. When you say what we would like to do is expensive, could you give me an idea as to how much?

I wouldn't advise fitting a stove to a gas installation, boiler manufactures don't accept them so your warranty can be effected, your also reliant on the manufacturers instructions of whichever device you choose to use to have some kind of guidance and protection if anything naughty happens like the gas boiler that exploded recently.

Stoves with backboiler are very popular at the moment most of the gas installations I see the stove has a negative impact on the gas heating system.
