Buying a 2016 Volkswagen Golf GTI

    Hi all,

I have my heart set on trading in my 142 Scirocco TDI for a 161 VW Golf GTI. I was planning to put my order in for the beginning of October for next year, but obviously with developments at VW this week I am slightly concerned. What I am worried about is that if I order the GTI now that VW may reduce their new car prices in the near future. Appreciate any thoughts or opinions.

Well the controversy is centred around diesel cars and the GTI is petrol. Personally I think it's a storm in a tea cup that'll blow over soon enough.

more than a storm in a teacup....
billions wiped off the share price already,
    possibly billions in fines
reputation damage, car sales will be down. countries already looking at banning sales of their cars.....

    thats some teacup

Financial trouble then in Germany, followed by Recession 2.0, hold onto the car you have and start buying 50kg bags of rice and start stockpiling some fuel. With the help o the good Lord ya might make it to the other side of the impending apocolypse

not a storm in a teacup, serious reprecussions for the company and, possibly VW owners. They will probably ride out the storm just about but this is one of the biggest mistakes from any european manufacturer in recent years. What is incredible is that it was so deliberate.

Give it another shake and order a Golf R ;)

This... It's a serious amount of extra car for not much more money over the GTI PP

Very good value at the moment IMO. Can't be beaten as an all round package for the money.

I'm only interested in the GTI- So it seems I will proceed with the order so.

They are releasing a clubsport special edition gti quite soon. You might ask the dealer about it. The edition gti's tend to be pretty smart and hold their value well.

Yeah I saw that. Surely they will only be sold in limited numbers and getting one may be difficult?

We dont really get limited edition GTIs over here do we? Would be surprised if a dealer even knew what you were talking about

If you rocked up at the dealer with 40k I'd say they could get one for you somehow. It might have mph clocks.

VW Ireland have never brought in the previous Anniversary editions but I'm told that they will this time around. How it'll be priced will be interesting. There's "only" approx 4.5k between the GTI PP and the R. So I imagine the new Clubsport will be very closely priced to the R. I'd have the R every time (no bias ;))

I'd could see the Anniversary model probably replacing the GTi PP in the line up, would be my guess.

Let's hope so as I had planned on getting the GTI PP

I guess it depends on the deal you get. Difference in my case was more like 8k. Not exactly spare change. :P

I can't see VW bringing prices down as a result of this scandal.
I could see other manufacturers getting caught too. I suspect manipulation of figures is widespread.
I would order and if the price comes down(it won't) that would be what you pay. If the price goes up while you're waiting you have to pay the new higher price. This is in the small print on all orders.
I'll sell you a 151 gti PP next year if you want to spend less:)
