Thats 5 return flights for €1,400. €140 each way per person. Probably as good as you will get for the time of year that it's for I would think.

My sister got me to book flights to Lanzarote for her last week.

She found that flying out of the UK was much cheaper. About half the price for July 2016.

Have a look at flying to Manchester or similar and then on to Lanzarote.
Mounts up when you have checked luggage and a large family though, as she found out.
But if you didnt have checked luggage it can be very cheap to do it that way.

Even to fly direct to or from Dublin but have the most expensive leg go through UK.

Also one option she looked at was spending a few days in Madrid.
The money she would have saved on the flights actually would have paid for a couple of days in Madrid and then some.

Yes. Remember though theres no point in getting insurance the night before you go if you were going to get it anyway. Ive heard of lots of people no being able to travel because of illness, family bereavement etc in the weeks before they were due to go who never took out insurance as they were going to get it just before they left.

So it would be ok to book tickets today and get inuance say 6 months before as laya health only give it 6 months before departure?

Going thru the UK is definitely the cheapest way per the post above. Between 5 carry ons you can get a good amount of stuff in, or even check 1 case if necessary. The key is to go before the English school holidays (2nd half of July to end of August).

While going through the UK might be a few €s cheaper, I don't think it's worth the hassle. You are adding on too much travelling time, even with good connection times. And if the connection doesn't work out due to a delay, it's your own problem then. Thats if you are with Ryanair. Not much fun sorting that out with a wife and 3 kids in tow. Along with the cost of it.

Well if you time it right you can save a lot more than a few €'s. If you look at the OP's quote of €1400... there's a flight to Liverpool nearly every morning for €20 and East Midlands for €10. If you pick up a flight that afternoon for c. £50 a head one way with Ryanair or Easyjet your total at that point is €450/500, leaving close to a grand for the direct flights back to Ireland. If you can manage to get them for around €100 a head (very doable, watch out for sales in Jan etc) you're well in.

Nonscense. I just looked at a few July dates for your options there and it works out actually more expensive when the £ Sterling flights are taken into account. Along with awkward flight connections.

    *Nonsense.

But spelling aside, people who book flights 10 months in advance are every airline's bread and butter. They know you want those dates so they can charge what they want.

You have to have a bit more faith and flexibility and ability to use Skyscanner. English school holidays don't start until 19th July so from end of June til then there WILL be cheap flights, whenever Easyjet and Ryanair decide they need to flog the rest of the seats after they've got top dollar from the organised people who plan their lives a year in advance. That's the way it is.

It's horses for courses really, if you don't mind paying a few hundred extra for the security and ability to plan in advance you're probably better off with a travel agent. If you are one of those people who likes to cut out middle men and doesn't mind spending a few hours in a UK airport you can pick up real bargains. I've done it regularly, but I guess it's not for everyone.

Last July I flew to Tenerife from Manchester return for €110.

It was €20 return from dublin to manchester.
