Making wings

    Hi all,
I usually make my own Halloween costume and this year is no exception. I'm going as Toothless this year and although I have material ordered, I'm stuck on a light but strong skeleton for the wings. I'm thinking of buying pool noodles and reinforcing them with moulding wire for along the top, and more moulding wire for the "veins". My biggest problem is the shape of them. They curve at the back, and I also want them to wrap around me a bit so they're out of the way. Anything heavy would pull the rest of the outfit out of place. Would this noodles and wire work, or would it all just bend out of shape and tear the noodles?

I would have thought pool noodles would be a bit bulky and might not take the weight of the wire. Would wire coat hangers work? (and use thinner wire to tie them together)
Or you could buy black wings (butterfly/angel) from a Euro shop and use that as a base, cover with black fabric and add more length with wire.

Wire itself definitely won't work. The fabric is 2x1m for each wing, although will be cut to shape so will end up a bit smaller. I used the same fabric last year on a different costume for a cape and it was heavy.

This might work. A bit heavy and a small bit ridget in the centre which means the wings will have to stick out rather than go around me but this was more for convenience in a crowded place so would do in a fix.
