Any good dating sites out there

Think I've just thrown some money down the bog with these dating sites.
Joined about three in the hopes of one day helping to continue the human race, and am disappoint.

They all seem to be quite sht.

And I don't mean 'I got rejected boo hoo' type of sht, or 'nobody likes my profile boo hoo' type of sht.

I mean a selection of about 7 people, 6 of whom last logged on in 2013 and 1 who's a Nigerian prince/princess with a picture of pitt/jolie type of sht.

'svetlana likes you - location.........Tajikistan' type of sht.

Are there any ways to use the internets to potentially actually get a half decent chance at some proper romance. Or at least any good sites.

(could name these thoroughly sht sites with no actual selection, but Maybe I'd get infracted)

the words 'sausage' and 'party' immediately spring to mind.

But sure I'll have a look. Desperate times desperate measures.

Beats Natalia 22 from Moscow on the practicality side I suppose.

Basically if meeting someone is really important to you, you're absolutely terrible at it and live in the middle of nowhere, the onus is kind of on you to move somewhere that boosts your opportunities. No dating site is going to solve the problems of a low population size.

Sure it's going to be like that on any dating site you're on, especially from a straight guy's perspective. I hear women complain all the time about the serious shortage of quality salami on POF...

    Who to believe? :(

Not the sites themselves it seems.

Thousands of singles await you on our awesome site.....4 of them even logged in this year. 1 even has a picture.

I shall try this pof you speak of.

Stay the hell away from paid dating sites. They're all a scam, with the majority having fake profiles. Remember the Ashley Madison leak, when it was revealed that a high percentage of the female profiles were, in fact, fake or not women at all? That's the same for all of 'em.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,678 ✭✭✭TrustedApple

Your man 3 are Pof, Ok Cupid and Tinder.

PoF would be the busiest of the 3 and the high number of time wasters but you will get a date of it in no time if your willing to met others off it.

Ok Cupid profiles are a lot longer and the girls are better on it as they will talk more then the girls on PoF but its not that busy off a site.

Tinder now would be the must poplar but i find it to be the biggest time wasting site of the lot and a lot of time wasters on it. As you will get matches and they will never message you and you will never message them.

But try all 3 and see from there.

Actually, those paid ones (not including match, of course, it's very well established I can't imagine it's bull**** for whatever audience it's for) getting any business at all used to really surprise me. From a purely logistics based perspective I thought absolutely everyone would think they were a scam ("how is it this website I've never heard of claims roughly 1% of the population here are on it?") but they must make a mint.
One of my friends, fairly smart guy but not the best with technology, was complaining to me about his love life (or lack thereof) and I said try some dating sites. So he starts going on about how he'd paid two dating sites I'd never heard of and was very unhappy with both experiences. Somehow he didn't seem to grasp why you'd want to use one that's extremely well know even after I explained it thoroughly to him.

If it's not on the first page of google results or mentioned in just about any "which dating website" by a reputable website, it's not worth your time, it's probably not legit either.

Match.com is as bad as the rest of them. The number of Irish users is ludicrously low and mostly based in Dublin.

yeah thats what im talking about, i dont mind failing on a site, if that happens, as long as there was an actual chance.

I found three sites that suited my requirements.

The first was for animal lovers -if you don't like my dogs then forget it. They had one member in Ireland.

The second was for people who didn't want kids - well I am past that. They had zero members in Ireland.

The third was for age gap relationships - my last long term girlfriend was quite a bit younger than me. Not one single member in Ireland.

The thing that made me wonder is when you see women who have paid €40 a month & then you see that they have been a "gold member" for three years :pac:

Once I saw on a forum on a dating website women talking about how if a man wasn't married by 40 it would set off a "red flag" for them. But of course that was a little harsh and generalizing... so they said "oh well it wouldn't be a dealbreaker, I would just want to know why".... as if it would be some hopeless weirdo thing unless you had some tight excuses for it, no thanks. Sad the world we've become.

Why would you go for a niche site instead of a popular one?

I believe that dating sites are immoral.

In the bible, is it? Which half?
I bet it's in Leviticus. They banned a lot of **** in Leviticus.

    I don't believe they're immoral but I do believe they're a bit s**t.

To me they just suck all of the energy out of it and it becomes a box ticking, spreadsheet managing type of operation. There's no zest, no sensuality about it. I was on okcupid for a while a few years ago, met a nice girl I went out with for about 6 months, but wouldn't bother with it anymore.

In my mind you can't just order up romance out of a website like a movie on netflix. I know it works for some and fair play to them and all but I just find it dull and tedious.

POF is the only really decent one, and that's free as well with no limitations on that free usage. I'm a very normal person and I've met loads of people from it, I find the people that say it doesn't work, or they never get any replies, etc, are simply those who put no real effort into it. Much like real life it does take a bit of work, you can't just throw up a picture, one vague sentence about yourself and expect the offers to flood in - but that's what a huge amount of people do. Paint a picture of who are you and what makes you unique and you'll do fine.

All it tells you about someone is how good or bad they are at marketing. That's it.

I have found match to be a whole hape of shoite - tinder is worse, but pof has got me my end away more times than I can remember - you need online game mate, the biggest issue is the mails guys send. You would simply not believe the amount of malis women get and you simply would not believe the amount that simply say "hi how are you"

Or..."fancy a no strings attached ride?"...or is that just me, I'd imagine it's fairly common
The pub always been a good one

I think the pub and nightclub scene here is exactly why people like me went down the online route...a series of failed relationships with emotionally insecure low self esteem half mental drunken wrecks whom I met twelve pints deep and herself in a similar state, it's not really the best start for any couple.

Because the idea of a relationship, involving an age gap, is treated with disdain in Ireland & a lot of Irish women think that a dog should live in the garden.

I notice that no one has mentioned eHarmony. I made the mistake once of filling in all their endless forms. Finally out came this assessment that was nothing like me. Seeking reassurance I mailed it to a few friends who were all equally baffled.

Dating sites are cheesy. You meet a stranger on the internet because some computer said you'd be perfect for each other. It doesn't feel as real as getting to know someone in real life and getting to like them.

How do you fall in love with a stranger you met on the internet?
omgz me got 40 matches wich 1 shud me choose?

    That's not real love.

Have you ever actually been on a dating site? Or is the above based on this scene from Sneakers? It sounds like you're unaware that some sites have a "search" function where you can for example look for females between 32 & 38 who live in Dublin. Then you can read their profiles to see if any interest you, rather than depending on the sites matching algorithm to try to set you up with a match.
How do you fall in love with a stranger you met on the internet?

How do you fall in love with a stranger you've met in a pub? You get to know them. Works the same with OD, believe it or not. Obviously, it's not for everyone, though.

    That's not real love.

And that's nothing at all like how online dating actually works.

Don't know where people get the notion but you have your own profile, others have theirs, and you're free to look and mail anyone you please.

Once you click with someone through a few messages, you decide to meet up for a coffee, a drink, some food, whatever works and take it from there.

There's no mystical computer pulling the strings or people falling in love with people they're never met.

It's moved on since 1995, you should try it again.

Ooohhh, look at this one! 38 years of age, lives in X, looks nice. Hmm, where's the 'add to cart' button?

It feels wrong. You read a description of someone on the internet and say "Hey, I want to marry that!". You agree to meet up and it's like "So yeah, we're going to get married."

It feels like fake love. I will never use one. Not that I would need to or anything! :D
