BT Humax Saorview

Used to get the 800+ channels showing RTE on the Humax freeview box from BT

Now it tunes to them but they are scrambled.

Ive been told it may be the BT Box thats scrambling them after an update.

Anyone know a fix or why its happening?

I live in Belfast and great signal , not sure of the aerial but probably Divis.

Ideally be a firmware update to wipe BT from the Humax box but google suggests no such software exists.

What do you mean by 'scrambled'? Breakup due to poor signal or, 'no service' message?

These are definitely the named services (RTE1, RTE2 etc.) in the list, & not the 'hidden' services, that are only actually hidden by Saorview-approved equipment, but show up in the channel list of everything else?

In Belfast, your Saorview signal will be coming from Clermont Carn, in Louth. The Irish channels from the Black Mountain transmitter in Belfast are part of the Freeview service, & will appear at nos. 51, 52, & 53 in the list. This multiplex is also transmitted from Carnmoney Hill, so maybe you have duplicates of these in the 800s as well?

    Thanks for reply

Scrambled - its like broken up picture and sound although signal quality etc is 60%+
Named services with now and next on EPG

    Have 51-53 with no issues.

Do you think its just signal quality? I met a rep from Freeview who said it might be the equipment although it used to pick everything fine until a couple of years ago

It definitely looks like a signal problem: did you make any enquiries along this line over the past couple of years? Maybe you got someone to look at your aerial?

I can't see it being a problem with the box, although it's possible some have more sensitive tuners, that would work better with the poor signal, or even just unplugging/plugging the aerial lead could 'revitalise' a dodgy connection, so replacing the box could very well make it look like the existing one was entirely to blame due to being faulty or incompatible, when this isn't the case at all.

It's possible you're in an area that just can't get a Saorview signal with any kind of margin for even slight deterioration, say due to aerial system loss of performance, or interference from somewhere.

Do you know did the guys who looked at the aerial, hook up a professional meter, & take proper signal readings?

Channels are all fine on my BT box, so it looks like a signal issue.
