    Hello,
02 Mondeo failed NCT High Idle - CO 0.79 (above 0.3 = fail), HC 453 (above 200 fail)
Using about 1 liter or oil every 500 miles and code P0420
P0420 -- Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)

Tried diesel flush and thicker oil 10W40 instead of 5W30 but no improvement there.
Tried Cataclean for the P0420 and no improvment there either ( so it doesn't do what it says on the tin as far as I am concerned).

Going ok apart from that so don't wish to scrap, but don't want to to spend too much money on it.

How long would a new Catalytic Converter last with burning oil?
Any point in trying CC from scrap yard?

    Any ideas? Thanks.

That cat has had it right enough. Cheap spurious ones won't last kissing time with that oil-burning situation, and while a new OE cat would be well able for it for a good while, it'll set you back possibly more than the car is worth. A healthy one from a breakers is the way to go. Give these folks a shout:
