Hi, was looking for information on what I need to become a home help or carer. I need to change career and work around my young child. I feel I would enjoy this work and would be able to work a few hours each day. What courses would I need to complete?

You could always go to this event

    http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Intreo-Careers-Fair.aspx

There will be Home Care Companies here and they will advise you on what they require.

You must register to attend. Register here and it's free.

Hi Critical, I am 5 modules into an 8 module Major Award in Healthcare Assistant. I am working as a carer in peoples homes and thought this is all I would need, however just tonight in class I heard I am supposed to have a full level 5 Major Award in Healthcare Skills by Jan 2016 in order to work in home care to care for HSE clients!! Luckily I only have to do one extra module to achieve that major award but I cannot find anywhere that does the extra module I need! I logged in here tonight looking for the info :)

    What module do you need?

Hey Spurious I need the "infection prevention and control". They now need access to a hospital for this module so lots of places have dropped it.

Maybe contact the above people and see if they are affected by this change and if they have any plans regarding staying able to offer it?

This centre http://www.ncutraining.ie/courses/infectionpreventionandcontrol.html (in Coolock, Dublin) have a course in that module scheduled to start November 20th - perhaps ring them and see have they access to a hospital?
