Ya there are some good motor factors alright. A couple of years ago I went in to mine looking for some flexible brake hoses for a MK2 Escort. I said what I was looking for. The gentleman behind the counter rubbed his chin and said "Oh that's a good one, Hang on for a minute". He disappeared out the back and came back in two minutes. He handed me two new hoses and said "Here's the front ones, the back one will be here in the morning. Sorry but we only ever stock two".

I've gotten shocks (I had a choice of manufacturer), bushings, ball joints, track control arms, brake calipers plus a whole lot more from my local motor factor with overnight delivery. He has the regular service stuff on the shelf. That being said, the staff know their stuff and are not the "Computer says no" types.

Are you able to mention where you got such a good service? Good contacts are always useful!

I would also like to know who and where this motor factor is. I am tired of the "We don't stock these. You should try a main dealer"
answer. Perhaps you could send me the details via private message.

I gave up on the motor factors for anything 'classic specific' a long time ago, Its all internet these days.
Although I do find my local Farm and plant suppliers great for bits and pieces as they go on size rather than 'whats it for'.

I always use Nolan Motor Factors, Limerick, 061319111. All the staff there really know their old cars. If its not in stock, order by 10 AM, and it there by 2 PM.

A few years ago I went in to a motor factor in a country town to order brake shoes for a BMW E21 and he had them in stock!

It turned out that some guy ordered them years ago and never called back.
