Is this a type of fungus?

It is all over my yard. I live in a marshy mountaneous area of cork and this very slippy stuff has been growing all over a gravelly part of my yard.

Its squishy to touch. Might it have useful properties?

    Thanks.
    Matt

Maybe. But it is not growing on any wood and does look different. A friend said it might be a lichen. I am still researching this possibility.
