    Highly recommend Dell Inspiron...

    http://www.dell.com/

Get one slightly cheaper than your budget and get what you need; office, etc.

Have a look at msi range, nice gaming specs etc... Good build quality, msi ghost pro is super might be out of budget, there is a few around a grand too.

For some reason I can't post links..

Look on elara, dabs, komplett and laptopsdirect, all ship to Ireland, shop around and you'll get a deal.

Here's some specs to look out for..
    i5, preferably i7 Intel processor
    8GB Ram min
Integrated Intel graphics have come a long way and can handle many games. If you are a serious gamer, look for a dedicated 2GB nvidia or ati card.
HDD size does not matter. You should be looking for a solid state drive as they are far quicker for loading, running apps and are much more robust than a spinning disk drive.
Optical drive is up to you as most things can be streamed or downloaded these days, their main use is storing old dvds or burning cds and who does that anymore?!
Thin and light is also something to look out for, preferably something with a metal chassis for coolness.
I have a nice little i5 Asus machine and it's fast as hell with an ssd upgrade.

    Good luck dude

Have you ever heard of pcspecialist.co.uk i got a cracking laptop off them, they let you build a custom laptop.

Forgot to say, touchscreen is not such a big thing with Windows 10, it's a nice to have of course! Windows 8 is pretty much useless without one, so lucky everyone has the free upgrade! Price up office student if you can as office is never included with a pc/laptop, just an annoying evaluation version.

    Optical Drive - None
    Warranty - N/A

I still suggest Dell. Decent warranty, blu-ray optical drive with some of the screens having 3d (not needed, but i hadn't a clue mine had it until i got it).

Looks decent. As I said, who needs an Optical drive? Dual hdds for boot and storage, great specs. I like it!
