Looking for some of your knowledge folks.

We've just taken down a wall to open out our kitchen/dining room. Since getting it done it's become clear the old kitchen colour and look is standing out as being old and tired now. We plan to fully extend in 5 years so don't want to spend too much now. We were quoted €750-800 to get out kitchen cabinets and surrounds painted and have since discovered the talk of vinyl wrapping instead. Is seems to be at least 50% cheaper.

Has anyone any experience of this? A rough idea of cost and could it be done myself or recommendations of anyone that does them?

    Many thanks in advance.

I recently got a new kitchen. I looked at the vinyl wrap and was interested, but then I saw a door on a display cabinet where the screw holding a handle in place had not been put in properly and you could see the broken edge of the vinyl wrap where it had not been hidden by the screw. I was very unimpressed as you could see that there was a distinct layer, which, it seemed to me, once it started to come off would just peel. Maybe I am wrong but I did not like the look of it and got the painted doors.

Thanks for that. Did you paint the kitchen yourself or get someone in? €750-800 for a standard 4 bed house kitchen seems excessive to me?

How many doors do you have?

There's quite a bit of work in painting a kitchen, it's not as simple as painting a wall. You have to remove the doors, degrease, sand, paint 1st coat, sand, paint 2nd coat. Similar for the carcass, then refit the doors.

Although labour intensive it's not difficult for anyone familiar with a paint roller/brush.

    10 standard size
    4 half size
    4 drawers
    Fridge/freezer cover doors
    20 in total.
