    Hi,

I am in the process of applying for Jobseeker's Allowance.

I am recently married but my spouse and I are living separately until I finish writing my PhD thesis here. She finished her PhD a year ago and is living in the US, working.

We don't share accounts, money etc., we don't live together, will her income still be included in my means testing?

    Thank you for your help!

I don't get how you can secure Jobseekers Allowance while doing your PhD?

    Is your PhD being funded?

Are you looking for and available for full time work OP?

I am finished the lab work stage and would be able to write weekends / evenings if I secure work. My funding is finished and I am no longer registered.
Until I secure work I can write when not seeking work.

In answer to your question yes her income will be assessed against your jobseekers allowance as you are only geographically separated.

Yes your spouse income is taken into account. They will request payslip and go from there

Thanks for replies, that is unfortunate seeing as she is only making enough to support herself where she is but will probably affect my means test significantly.
