    Hi,

A garda hand delivered a court summons to my current address this evening for a speeding offence a year ago which I had no knowledge of as the original notification appears to have been sent to my old address.

Is there any way I can avoid going to court at this stage?

Get a solicitor, go to court and say you never received the original notification

Die or leave the country permanently.

Thanks, looks like my best option.

Let's be careful. Whilst a certain amount of light-hearted banter is allowed in this forum, we are not going to a level where useless posts are getting kudos.

Please keep things on topic, civil and as best we can, helpful.

You don't need to pay a solicitor to tell the judge that you never received the original notification. Provide proof of change of address and u' ll. be grand.

Judge will then ask why he didnt update his licence which he is required to do

It is advised but doesn't appear to be a legal requirement.
While you are required to carry your driving licence or learner permit with you at all times when driving, you are not required by law to change your licence or permit if you change your name or address. However, it is advisable.

I can't post the exact URL as I don't have enough posts but the above is taken directly from www citizensinformation ie

It will cost a fortune to have a solicitor in court with you. Just tell the judge what happened u haven't killed anyone!!!!!!

What is the general consensus on having a solicitor with you for a case like this? Is it better to have one or not?

Was your car registered to an old address when you were speeding?

Yes, it was still registered to my old address on the date of the speeding offence.
