Revenue wasting time & money?

I want to ask if anyone else gets repeated or unnecessary correspondence from Revenue?

After putting my tax form in early for 2014. I have got 4 reminder to do it after I had. I also got 2 requests for the wrong amount. After hours of calls and 2 emails I finally got my tax return sorted. I don't mind paying my tax but to see the waste with people in revenue getting things wrong and repeating letter just sent as if not cost. My tenants (I am a non-resident landlord) sent in 3 form and visited the Tax office twice to try pay the tax due from the rent.

The online service is good when it works but it seems over complicated to get a login . In these days when Ireland needs money is anyone trying to improve the system in place or the waste both time and money at revenue?

I just want Ireland to get back on its feet so I can move back to a better place.

thanks in advance for reading & input.

These are automatically generated letters that cost a few cent a piece, it probably is wasteful in that if they didn't send reminders they would accrue more from the prosecutions and penalties from those who fail to file returns, but on the other hand it eliminates the "nobody told me" plea in those instances.

I fear the savings either way wouldn't make a jot of difference to the GDP or National Debt, however.

Unfortunately, even though it may seen over complicated the security is needed to prevent all kinds of fraud potential by someone gaining unauthorized access to someone else's PAYE anytime account. Revenue actually did a good job here with the security. A simple username/password combo is too easy to hack.

Irish Revenue is ridiculous efficient. Its probably one of the most efficient tax authorities in the world. Eg giving you a warning of audit to make full disclosure of under payments / errors in taxes. This saves Revenue time and money auditing. They pretty much make every file their taxes digitally( still doesnt happen in the US).

They tend to be a bit heavy on the letter. But we are Irish and generally dont file anything on time even with reminders. An Post gets about 30% for collecting TV licenses and we still have the worst TV license evasion in Europe. Revenue only get 1/2 cent on the Euro and are highly efficient.

Revenue actively look for tax loopholes and close them. That never happens in the US

Irish Revenue are very highly thought of internationally apparently by their own (presumably v. dull*) peers. (*Kidding, please don't audit me). When you see the messing that went on in Greece, we probably should (grudgingly) be grateful.
