Hi, would anyone know any Dublin cycling clubs which have a good junior section. I'm 15 but I'm not sure which clubs would have a similar age group. Also what level would I have to be at to be able to join a club.

Clubs near the Clontarf or killester area would be preferable but I can travel if needed.

    Thanks in advance.

You just need to be able to ride your bike! You'll surprise yourself how strong you are against current members.

You could try for NRPT-Magnet.ie, they seem to have the best juniors around usually. Otherwise any of the big clubs that have a youths section is going to be fine.

Swordscc are running Beginner/intermediate spins at the moment. The next one is a 30k spin on Saturday, October 10th @ 11am. As your under 18, a Parent or guardian will have to accompany you to the meeting point and sign a consent form. We've had a few 12 and 13 year olds on these spins and they were fine. No need to worry about the appropriate "level".

i think you need to have shown a certain standard to be picked up by them, no?

OP - both 07Lapierre and myself are members of McNally Swords CC, hence of course we will suggest the club to you

I would add though that the club has put a lot of effort into it's youth section, particularly over the past couple of years. This has allowed riders to progress significantly both within the leisure section, but also at racing, where our club league has junior prizes available. If you wish to drop either of us a line please feel free and we could give you more info about what the club can offer. It would also help us as well as anyone else who may have any suggestions if you could outline your own objectives and perhaps give an idea of the type of stuff you have been doing

If racing is what you are interested in Lucan CRC Juniors are doing great things. That page hasn't been updated for a bit but you get the idea.

Lucan have an excellent junior section. Look at the results they had this year and one of the NRPT lads is on loan from them as well.

Thanks, but I'm not quite interested in racing quite yet, but maybe in the future.

One of the Lucan lads is from Clontarf. Joined as it has a good record for developing at the right pace. As regards not racing Lucan have 4 distinct training sections during the winter. 60km group which is a broad mix of ability and ages with an avg pace of about 24-26km. Sportive group which does 80-100km on an average spin at approx 27kmph. Inter group which is approx 100km at approx pace of 29kmph. Then you have the various different racing groups doing their plans for the winter. Something to suit everyone there. Junior riders go with whichever suits their needs at a given time.
